It is considered one of the most beautiful roads in Europe: on its 170 km length through the wine-growing region of Alsace in the departments of Bas-Rhin and Haut-Rhin, it strings together idyllic wine villages in a dreamlike manner.
Strasbourg – the European Capital
The 142m high, impressive Strasbourg Cathedral awaits you and the cozy alleys of the tanners’ quarter “La Petite France” invite you to stroll – also take advantage of the attractive shopping opportunities in the city center.
Let the Alsatian city of Colmar enchant you! Take a walk through the Tanners’ Quarter or the “Little Venice” neighborhood and enjoy the flair of Alsace.
One of the most historic places in Alsace is the rebuilt “Haut-Koenigsbourg” in Selestat, which is located between Strasbourg and Colmar.
In 1893, Kaiser Wilhelm II decided to build a fortress around Strasbourg to protect the Rhine plain from the French offensive. Today you can visit the partially restored fortress complex in Alsace under a guided tour.
